Overview of current European projects

We are currently collaborating on two Key Action 2 and two Key Action 1  Erasmus+ projects with different European partners.  All projects focus on how youth organizations and youth workers can accompany young people in a non formal learning environment and support in their growth.

Bluefront

The project intends to empower disadvantaged youth in rural aquatic regions to engage with Europe’s Blue Economy and the Green Deal by addressing water challenges and advocating for water justice. The project develops a youth-focused learning curriculum, trains youth and youth workers, supports community water projects, and leads a youth-driven social media campaign.

By building skills and raising awareness, BLUEFRONT aims to train 100 youth and 180 youth workers, implement sustainable water solutions in local communities, and reach millions with its advocacy, fostering greater youth participation in environmental and climate action.

Playground Youth Work

Playground Youth Work aims to modernize youth work across Europe by combining outdoor learning with digital tools. Over 18 months, the project will train 15 youth workers, develop 16 outdoor activities, and create 16 video tutorials, culminating in a fully tested digital Playground Learning Curriculum in Malta, Italy, and Georgia.

The initiative focuses on enhancing quality, promoting inclusion, and building the long-term capacity of youth organisations. Resources and results will be widely shared through online and offline channels to encourage adoption of innovative playground youth work practices. By integrating practical outdoor methods with digital innovation, the project delivers sustainable, engaging, and accessible learning experiences for young people across Europe.

YouthARTiculate

The project aims to empower young people to actively participate in shaping their communities and societies through democratic engagement, creative expression, and intercultural dialogue. With the goal of fostering youth activism, the project equips participants with the necessary skills, knowledge, and platforms to advocate for social change. It includes a series of interconnected activities such as a Youth Participation Event in Serbia, a Youth Exchange in Malta, and a Final Conference, each designed to provide hands-on experiences, policy dialogues, and opportunities for creative advocacy. Local youth events in Poland, Ukraine, Luxembourg, Serbia and Hungary will further engage communities at the grassroots level. In addition, online will support continuous interaction and ensure long-term engagement beyond the duration of the project.

Past European projects

BEUropean

This youth exchange brings together 30 young people from diverse backgrounds, including participants from Ukraine and other European countries to explore European identity and promote active citizenship.

Through a variety of non-formal education methods and a learning-by-doing approach, the exchange creates a safe space for participants to share their perspectives on being European, discuss common values and reflect on their roles in shaping Europe. The programme includes peer-led activities, group discussions and workshops focused on inclusion, diversity, solidarity and media literacy.

By encouraging critical thinking and intercultural dialogue, the project supports the goals of the Erasmus+ programme by empowering young people to be inclusive, participative, and engaged citizens in Europe. Experienced youth workers and a facilitator guide the process, ensuring meaningful and impactful learning throughout the exchange.

Crossing the Digital Divide

1/09/2022 – 1/11/2023

The project focused on empowering young people with fewer opportunities by equipping them with essential digital marketing skills to access remote employment. Youth workers from partner organizations received targeted training, enabling them to better support disadvantaged youth in developing digital competencies. The project also fostered collaboration between organizations across Europe, creating a network to share best practices and innovative approaches. Participating young people gained practical knowledge in areas such as social media management, SEO, content creation, and digital analytics, enhancing their employability in one of today’s fastest-growing job markets. By addressing the needs of vulnerable youth—including migrants, asylum seekers, and those experiencing homelessness—the project contributed to social inclusion, equal opportunities, and long-term career prospects while strengthening the capacity of organizations to support their communities.

Resources

Hands on Development

The project focuses on enhancing youth engagement in global development through a series of structured activities aimed at building capacity for youth organizations, promoting awareness, and encouraging active participation with young people. It includes the implementation of research, training, resource development, awareness-raising, and dissemination actions.

the project contributes to a deeper understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the EU’s development policies. It promotes cross-sectoral cooperation, develops innovative tools for non-formal education, and supports increased civic participation at local, national, and international levels.

Sea & Coast, Lake and it Shores: Conquering Stress, Anxiety and Grief

01/11/2021-31/01/2023

This project was initiated to enhance youth workers’ competencies in supporting young people experiencing stress, anxiety, loss, and grief. Through non-formal educational and therapeutic activities in natural environments such as the sea, coast, lakes, and shores, participants gained practical tools to engage young people in emotional wellbeing and self-development. A key outcome of the project was a comprehensive toolkit, available in print and online on our website, providing methods and resources for youth workers. Building on this foundation, the initiative evolved into “Out of the Blue” a specialized training program combining outdoor water-based activities with theoretical learning to equip youth workers with holistic strategies for supporting young people through life’s challenges.

As a key outcome of this project, participants developed a practical toolkit focused on outdoor and blue space environments to support youth work. Drawing on their hands-on experiences during the training, the toolkit was further refined and finalised by a researcher in Malta. It provides adaptable activities and resources designed to help youth workers create meaningful, safe, and impactful outdoor learning experiences tailored to their local contexts. The toolkit serves as a valuable companion to other safety and guidance materials for organizations working with disadvantaged young people.

Youth inclusion: education, Employment, and empowerment

1/05/2016 – 30/06/2017

The project aimed to promote youth inclusion through education, employment, and empowerment. It focused on vulnerable groups such as migrant youth, NEETs, early school leavers, youth with mental health needs, and others affected by poverty and social exclusion. Through international collaboration, research, and a youth-led conference, the project explored the lived realities of poor youth across Europe and developed innovative approaches in non-formal and informal education. Young participants shared their experiences, raised their voices on key issues, and contributed valuable insights and recommendations to policy discussions. Strategic partnerships were built, and good practices identified to help improve wellbeing, reduce unemployment, and support the most disadvantaged young people in shaping better futures.

MentorPower

This project provided youth workers with a creative and practical approach to supporting disadvantaged young people through informal mentoring. The training course equipped participants with essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes to build strong mentoring relationships, particularly with young people who are homeless or lack family support. In response to the challenges many youth faced in the post-pandemic context, the course offered hands-on activities, tools, and methods to foster connection, resilience, and social inclusion.

Handbook for Mentors

Mentoring Disadvantaged Young People

02/02/2024-05/02/2024

The Erasmus+ Key Action 1 training course brought together youth workers from Belgium, Malta, Spain, Slovakia, the Netherlands, Ireland, Aruba, and Germany to develop mentoring skills for working with disadvantaged young people. The course was developed as a result of a Key Action 2 project implemented in 2019, which united partner organisations committed to supporting vulnerable youth through mentoring. Building on the positive outcomes of that initiative and the strong reception of its handbook and training guide, this follow-up training aimed to deepen the knowledge, skills, and competences of youth workers. Using a structured non-formal educational approach, the course addressed key areas such as the mentoring environment, core attributes of effective mentors, trauma-informed practices, and the use of storytelling as a developmental tool. Developed in close collaboration with experienced stakeholders, the training sought to empower youth workers to build meaningful mentoring relationships and support disadvantaged young people in achieving sustainable, positive life outcomes

Mentoring Young People with Difficult Behaviour

01/10/2024 – 31/03/2025

This project equipped youth workers with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to mentor disadvantaged young people, particularly those who were homeless or lacked family support. Through a hands-on training course, participants explored practical tools, storytelling methods, and informal learning approaches to build strong, supportive mentoring relationships. The training focused on promoting social inclusion and helping young people navigate challenges, plan their futures, and lead healthier, more independent lives. A total of 27 youth workers took part, gaining both theoretical insight and practical experience drawn from real-life situations. Each participant received a comprehensive mentoring manual to support their continued work. The project created meaningful impact by strengthening the capacity of youth workers and ultimately improving the lives of the vulnerable young people they support.

Mentoring students with Challenging Behaviour

11/03/2025 – 14/03/2025

The project focused on providing participants with comprehensive training in mentoring students exhibiting challenging behaviour. Conducted in Sliema, Malta, the course offered a structured blend of theoretical knowledge and experiential learning. Participants engaged in workshops addressing key social and emotional issues such as anger, isolation, mental well-being, and interpersonal relationships. The programme aimed to develop essential mentoring skills and equip individuals with practical tools to effectively support young people in educational and social contexts. With a limited cohort size, the training ensured a focused and supportive learning environment. Overall, the course fostered personal development and professional growth in the field of mentorship.

Adventure Education

13/03/2023 – 16/03/2023

01/06/2024 – 31/12/2024

The project aimed to enhance the competencies of youth workers and educators in the use of non-formal, outdoor-based learning methodologies to support the personal and social development of young people, particularly those with fewer opportunities. Two editions of the training course were successfully implemented, one in 2023 and another in 2024.

Participants together with professional trainers engaged in structured outdoor activities designed to be both challenging and achievable, encouraging them to step outside their comfort zones while remaining within a safe and supportive learning environment.

The programme included the planning and implementation of trekking-based tasks incorporating unexpected scenarios to foster teamwork, adaptability, and problem-solving. Reflection and debriefing sessions were integral, enabling participants to critically assess their experiences, understand the pedagogical value of outdoor learning, and explore practical applications within their own contexts.

As a result, participants returned to their respective organizations equipped with the knowledge and tools to design and lead effective outdoor education programmes. The project also facilitated the creation of professional networks to support ongoing collaboration and knowledge exchange.

The training course is ongoing and will continue in the future. For the latest updates, please visit the Training Courses section of our website.

Out of the Blue

01/06/2023 – 30/11/2023

01/07/2024 – 31/12/2024

Project Out of the Blue was developed in response to needs identified during a previous KA2 initiative, where partners highlighted the importance of using sea and coastal environments (“blue spaces”) to support young people experiencing stress, anxiety, and loss. Building on the feedback and toolkit produced in that project, this KA1 training course aimed to equip youth workers with the skills and confidence to use nature-based, non-formal methods to promote mental well-being.

The training was implemented twice, once in 2023 and again in 2024. Through outdoor coastal activities combined with theoretical input and guided reflection, participants learned how to engage and support young people effectively, fostering resilience, personal growth, and meaningful connection with self, others, and nature.
